Courses overview and application
Courses format: The course curriculum includes short courses which offer a high degree of flexibility in terms of time allocation, learning modality, location and content. This allows participants to choose: take an individual short course, take more than one short course, or complete a package of courses to a Certificate in Social Protection. The courses have all been designed and will be implemented by both academic and professional institutions in the field of social protection and aim to bring together and strengthen theory, practice and management expertise across the field of social protection while linking each area with other relevant sectors and policies. The package of courses includes e-Learning courses and face- to- face courses and requires a minimum of 3.5 months to complete, in total.
Certificate in Social Protection:
When applying for our Certificate in Social Protection candidates are requested to submit a letter of motivation with their application form.
For achievement of the Certificate in Social Protection, participants need to complete all courses and their associated requirements for ONE of the three package options listed below. The fastest time for courses completion is 3,5 months. Each participant will have maximum two calendar years, from the commencement of their first course (either e-learning or face-to-face), to complete the package they choose.

*Note: All courses listed below are available to eligible participants who are enrolled in the Programme – each course can be taken individually or as part of the certificate programme.
Required Courses for achieving the Certificate on Social Protection are:
1. E-Learning courses (TOTAL ECTS: 7.5):
Course A1: Introduction to Social Protection: A Systems Approach to Universal Social Protection (ECTS 2.0) + participants’ choice of any other online courses offered by the program amounting to a total of 5,5 ECTS.
*Note: 7.5 ECTS have to be earned through online/ e-learning courses to achieve the certificate
*Note: If participants want to take courses amounting to more than 7.5 ECTS during the programme, extra course fees will apply.
2. Face-to-Face courses (TOTAL ECTS: 7.5):
1. Course B1: Introduction to Social Protection Governance in Social Protection (in cooperation with AOK Consulting)
2. Course B2: Business Administration in Social Protection
3. Course B3: Controlling in Pension systems (in cooperation with the German Pension Fund)
4. Course B4: Controlling in health insurance (in cooperation with AOK Consulting)
5. Course B5: Monitoring and Evaluation of Social Protection Systems (in cooperation with Maastricht Graduate School of Governance / UNU-MERIT (Maastricht University))
Description of Blended-Learning Packages:
Each of the three package options will amount to a total of 15 ECTS points. Each participant must choose one package out of the three package options. The package chosen by the participant must be completed to earn the certificate.
Fees for the Certificate in Social Protection can be paid in one or two instalments, for your convenience. If choice of two instalments is made, then payments are due:
- At registration for the programme
- 3 months after initial programme registration
