Certificate in Social Protection
The Certificate in Social Protection is designed to enhance system-level thinking and innovation capacity for postgraduates and professionals working in social protection systems. The unique and targeted mix of theoretical education and practical training disseminates specialist knowledge, teaches impactful skill-sets and improves professional competencies in related fields, while building strong networks for future collaboration. The certificate combines online and face-to-face teaching, increasing the flexibility for participants, who can take the online courses at their own pace. During the five weeks of face-to-face training at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, participants get to engage directly with academic and professional experts from the field.
The Certificate in Social Protection covers social protection system design, management and evaluation, and is therefore ideal for capacity building and training. Participants study the fundamental economics of social security, learning about markets and market failure. They train administrative techniques including marketing, quality management and evaluation methods. With a focus on applicability in the home countries of our participants, the certificate is designed to achieve real-world impact. Online courses (TOTAL ECTS: 7.5):
Course A1: Introduction to Social Protection: A Systems Approach to Universal Social Protection (ECTS 2.0) + participants’ choice of any other online courses offered by the program amounting to a total of 5,5 ECTS.
*Note: 7.5 ECTS have to be earned through online/ e-learning courses to achieve the certificate
*Note: If participants want to take courses amounting to more than 7.5 ECTS during the programme, extra course fees will apply.
Face-to-Face courses (TOTAL ECTS: 7.5):
- Course B1: Introduction to Social Protection Governance in Social Protection (in cooperation with AOKConsulting)
- Course B2: Business Administration in Social Protection
- Course B3: Controlling in Pension systems (in cooperation with the German Pension Fund)
- Course B4: Controlling in health insurance (in cooperation with AOKConsulting)
- Course B5: Monitoring and Evaluation of Social Protection Systems (in cooperation with Maastricht Graduate School of Governance / UNU-MERIT(Maastricht University))
The 2020 face-to-face courses of social protection take place in Heidelberg from October 5th to November 11th. Full attendance is required.
The online-course requirement must be completed within 2 years of the date of registration.
The total course fee is 3,500€.
Fees for the Certificate in Social Protection can be paid in one or two installments, for your convenience. If choice of two installments is made, then payments are due:
- At registration for the programme
- At the start of the first course
